What have I learnt about exams this term?
- Students go to school to get an ENTER score. Those who wish to believe otherwise may end up better off somewhere else. "You come here for the experience" No sorry, that's just school propaganda trying to drag your attention off acedemics to all the time-wasting activities it forces you to participate in.
- If you want time to study, get yellow slips. Or else get a medical certificate. Got me off x-country and aths and still manage to gain house points? Hello house colours with bars. Oh did I skip all house sports and chapel this term?
- Catastrophizers don't get 40+ IB scores. Those who get 40+ spend the execrating time memorizing their notes. Those who get 40+ would also prefer if catastrophizers would shut up and create a quiet environment for studying.
- And why do schools give a million past papers to students? It's no help. Exams were designed for examination, not revision. That's what notes are for. And what if you perfect that past paper? All it means is that you can do the specific questions in there. Chances of those exact questions popping up next exam? Zero.
- "If you're not working, someone in the asia pacific will, and they will achieve a higher score than you" Not true. Those dam poor kids in government schools in asia work their ass off for 5 years only to do foundation year. Or maybe A-levels. Another 2 years of hell to get into local unis ranked in the hundreds.
Good luck to everyone with studying in the holidays.
